We work on providing solutions for complex problems in society, spanning from energy issues to materials, transportation, policy, agriculture, industry, architecture, the urban environment and many more.
We believe that the way we are currently running our global society is not borne out of insight, but rather, out of simple historical inertia. There is a call for people around the world, from private individuals to those acting on behalf of corporations, to tap into our uniquely human ability to imagine a better, more sustainable future. Based on this shared vision, we must shape a new path forward that will lead us there.
Our aim: At Except, we are responding to that call. Our aim is to actively help transform our world into a truly sustainable one - where a strong, just, and wealthy society is consistent with a clean environment, healthy ecosystems, and a beautiful planet.
Since 1999, both public and private sector clients havepartnered with Except to provide solutions ranging from energy issues to transportation, management innovation, sustainable architecture, policy, agriculture, industrial processes, and the built environment.
Except originally started in Delft, the Netherlands, as a design and research firm. In the early years the vision of building the foundations for a sustainable future was developed, as well as the perspective on what sort of company would be needed to do this. Projects were executed on four continents, and this global knowledge was used to make the concept more effective.
For the last 5 years we've actively developed the company together with a network of partners around the world, to be able to assist each project from concept to execution.
We strive to make the move towards sustainability practical, profitable, enjoyable, and above all, truly executable. This has shaped our operations over the years, experimenting with approaches, methodologies, including fields of knowledge and, not unimportant, unlearing many of the things we originally thought were important.
In our Vision & Global priorities section we've identified the major issues we have to deal with as a society in the short term to ensure a healthy planet and society in the long term.
Our Team: Our team consists of scientists, engineers, architects, urban planners, programmers, designers, and managers. We pride ourselves on having a mix of specialists as well as generalists, which allows us to get a full grasp of the big picture before zeroing in on the details.
